Backyard Ponds – Putting a Pond in Your Backyard

When you’re planning new landscaping, consider the enjoyment people get from backyard ponds. There is nothing like water in a natural setting to give us a feel of tranquility. So, if you’re hoping to turn your backyard into a peaceful setting where you can relax with friends and family, a pond may need to be on your list of must-haves!

Even if you have a small yard, a pond can be incorporated into it. Raised ponds can be set into corners of patio-filled yards, with aquatic plants and even fish. A fountain bubbling in the pond adds a soothing sound that will bring enjoyment on a daily basis.

If you have a very large yard, think about putting a pond toward the back of it as a habitat for local wildlife. Frogs and turtles will enjoy a space of their own, and there are many different plants you can include that will entice them to take up residence in your habitat. You can even create a grove of sorts around the pond, to attract birds and other fauna.

A more exotic type of animal found in many backyard ponds is the koi, a fish native to Japan. The koi, when included in Japanese artwork, is usually indicative of good luck, as is having them in or near your home.

Koi are very popular as outdoor pets, but be sure to do your research to make sure you’re building the best environment for them when you construct your pond.

If having animals in your backyard doesn’t appeal to you, there are still many kinds of ponds you may enjoy. If your space is large enough, you can construct a fake river bed, feeding into your bond, with a pump that cycles the water back up to the beginning of the river.

Or, make your pond into a wishing fountain. If you have children that visit your home on a regular basis, they’re sure to get a kick out of that!

Obviously, backyard ponds can be small or large, simple or exotic. Whichever you choose to install in your own yard, you will gain years of enjoyment from it.
